This dynamic group of thought leaders represents diverse geographies and disciplines, encompassing fields as wide-ranging as political science, ethics, journalism, engineering, anthropology, economics and data science. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2572\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-1.png 1024w, https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-1-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-1-768x480.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This distinguished group will oversee the process of completing an authoritative report evaluating and synthesising scientific contributions related to the challenges we face in the information ecosystem. This includes selecting initial priority themes for the first cycle of thematic evaluation reports, guiding relevant working groups and ensuring rigorous scientific standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Following a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/informationdemocracy.org\/2023\/06\/02\/opening-of-the-call-for-nomination-for-the-observatorys-steering-committee\/\">global call for nomination<\/a>s that returned&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/informationdemocracy.org\/2023\/07\/10\/closing-of-the-call-for-nomination-over-100-experts-applied-for-the-international-observatory-on-information-and-democracy-oid-steering-committee\/\">over 100 applications<\/a>&nbsp;from all over the world, 19 top policy and academic experts have been selected by the Observatory\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/informationdemocracy.org\/working-groups\/ioid\/\">prefiguration group<\/a>, co-chaired by Shoshana Zuboff, Emeritus Professor at the Harvard Business School, and Angel Gurr\u00eda, former Secretary General of the Organisation for Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Steering Committee composition has been validated by the Board of the Forum on Information and Democracy which oversees the Observatory\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe Forum on Information and Democracy deeply appreciates the dedication of these renowned global experts for offering their time, skills and expertise to the Observatory\u2019s inaugural research cycle,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Christophe Deloire, Chair of the Forum on Information and Democracy. \u201c<\/strong>This Steering Committee\u2019s leadership is essential to achieving the Observatory\u2019s mission and executing its mandate \u2013 which is to provide a robust scientific foundation for a common understanding of the structure of the information and communication space, its impact on democracy, and to inform more evidence-based policy decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2570\" style=\"width:271px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image.png 300w, https:\/\/saltoagencia.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-253x300.png 253w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Observatory\u2019s work on information and democracy is equivalent to the IPCC for climate change, and just as urgent \u2013 as underscored by the generous commitment from this globally eminent group of thought leaders. Their work as Steering Committee members will be critical in establishing a robust, scientific foundation for understanding the impact of new technologies and behaviours on democratic governance and institutions.
